AECM Conversion

Western Digital drives have a ‘Single” setting which must be used when the drive is all alone. The AEC is usually cheaper and easier to find than the Mac version, but it cannot be used in a Mac even with a firmware update, without modification.

If you try to use a Western Digital drive as a single drive only drive on cable and set the jumper to Master, you’ll get much the acar symptoms as you had. It is coexist with the on board IDE controller. Each drive already had an OS 9. I am sorry I came so late to the thread.

Does somebody have any suggestion? So I breathed deeply and took a step further: If an unmodified AEC is flashed with the Mac firmware, the Mac will not boot with the card installed.

Using Master when you should use Single will result acarrd similar behavior. Does it not mount or not even show up in Drive Setup?
